About us

What We Do

NEF funds projects in partnership with international charities that share its mission and values. These projects focus on renewable-energy related interventions worldwide, across three main thematic areas: Education, Health and Water and Improved Livelihoods. Between 2022 and 2025 NEF has also supported some Nature-Based Projects.

Since its inception, NEF has been proactive in Emergency Relief Efforts, supporting communities affected by armed conflict and natural disasters.

Governance

NEF’s mission is fully aligned with that of the NextEnergy Group and is overseen by a Board of six Directors  and guided by a shared vision and Code of Conduct:

Our Vision

To provide energy and light from renewable energy sources to underserved regions, as well as to benefit the local communities in which the NextEnergy Group is present, and beyond.

Code Of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct outlines the principles, responsibilities, and standards of behaviour expected of all trustees and members of the management committee of the NextEnergy Foundation. It serves as a guide to support ethical decision-making, effective governance, and the proper management of responsibilities, ensuring that all actions are carried out in the best interests of the Foundation and its beneficiaries. By adhering to this Code, NEF Trustees commit to upholding integrity, transparency, accountability, and respect in all aspects of their role.

Details of our Code of Conduct are available to read here.

Our Contribution To The SDGs

Endowment Fund

In 2023, NEF launched an Endowment Fund designed to operate in five-year cycles. The income generated from this fund will supplement the Foundation’s grant-making activities. All investment are fully aligned with NEF’s mission and adhere 100% to DNSH (Do No Significant Harm) principles. The Trustees of NEF have appointed an investment manager, EQ Investors, to oversee the fund. An Investment Committee has also been established to monitor its activities. One member of the Investment Committee is external to the Board of Directors.

NEF's Yearly Growth

What began in 2016 with a single project in one country has grown into a global network of initiatives delivering sustainable impact across multiple regions. Year after year, the Foundation has expanded its reach, supporting more communities, strengthening local partnerships and increasing the scale of its renewable energy and social impact programmes.
