New project with GivePower
Date: 27/11/2020
NextEnergy Foundation is pleased to announce that it is beginning its second project in conjunction with GivePower this year. GivePower is a non-profit organisation which is working to provide energy solutions to the developing regions who need them most, particularly ‘last-mile’ communities.
In 2018, GivePower installed its first solar water farm (SWF) in Kenya. Since then, GivePower has been fine-tuning a sustainable SWF model. NextEnergy Foundation is contributing to the installation of a ‘Mobi’ system in the Cabo de la Vela commmunity, La Guajira, Colombia. The desalinisation system will provide potable water for 2,500 people every day for 20 years. GivePower has partnered with the University of California, Berkeley’s Energy Resource Group to conduct impact studies on the SWFs. Key impacts envisaged for the Mobi are related to the environment, health and female empowerment.
An update will be provided once the installation is complete, and bi-annually thereafter.
